ORTHOPAEDIC HOSPITAL TEAM LED BY THOMAS P. SCHMALZRIED, M.D. WINS COVETED CHARNLEY AWARD
A team of physicians and scientists based at Orthopaedic Hospital in Los Angeles have won the John Charnley Award in recognition of excellence in total hip replacement research. Acknowledged as one of the most prestigious distinctions in orthopaedic surgery, the award is named after Sir John Charnley, the father of modern total joint replacement who was knighted by the British Royal Family for his contributions to medical technology. This is the third Charnley Award presented to researchers at Orthopaedic Hospital.
